Tips for Party Planning

Let me start off by saying I am not a party planner,
but I do enjoy it very much. I have taken the concepts
I learned in design school and use them when planning parties.
So here are a few tips I came up with.

1- Decide on a theme or color palette and stick to it!
You can use accent colors, but by repeating the same
few colors multiple times you come out with a cohesive
look. For this party the theme was Carousels and the
color palette was pink and aqua. Everything from the
invitations, the cake, the games, decor, and
favors were all based on this theme and color palette.
2- Have a focal point. In rooms and on food tables, there should
be a focal point. In this case it was the cake, it was the tallest
item on the table and it captured your attention.
3- Keep serving platters cohesive to keep things classy.
In this case I used all white dishes (cake stand, donut plates,
and platter for fruit.) Sometimes mixing it up can be fun, but
you are always safe when you keep things the same.

another tip: Instead of using red Dixie cups for parties,
spend the extra dollar for the clear cups, they don't draw any
attention to themselves so your eye stays on the color palette.

4: Make sure the games and activities tie into your theme.
We played "horseshoes" which were horseshoe shaped
bean bags I made, that the kids threw into a bucket.
We also played "pin the tail on the carousel horse"
And lastly, we rode the carousel.
Here is the birthday girl, as happy as can be!
Also, keep an eye out for fun props to use.
I found this #2 at Homegoods for $2, spray painted it,
and used it for a photo shoot and as decoration on the
gift table. It was unexpected but the perfect accessory!
