Monogrammed Glasses

So here is an easy, inexpensive and
personalized gift idea for you!
I bought a pack of 6 glasses at Ikea ($8)
and cut out a stencil using vinyl on a Cricut.
I then attached the stencils to the glasses,
and used etching cream ($6 with a 50% off coupon
at Michaels)

Let the cream sit for about 5 minutes,
rinse off the cream, peel off the sticker
and VOILA!

haha, can you see it? A little?
My picture didn't turn out well, but here is
a better example of what it looks like.

This is a great hostess gift, wedding gift
or make them for yourself!
I now want to etch everything in my house!

JCasa handmade Highlight: Sewn Boxes

I saw these over at Jennifer Casa's blog, JCasa handmade, HERE and thought that they were awesome! She has some other amazing tutorials and ideas, so go check her out!

Find the free PDF tutorial HERE so you can make your own!

Fill them up with goodies for the neighbors, use them as nesting boxes, fashionably organize crafting supplies with them and more.

For me, I think they would be the perfect fix for our dresser. Our dresser is seriously is bombarded by change, business cards, and receipts from my husband's pockets and it absolutely drives me crazy. I occasionally can't look at it any longer and go into a cleaning frenzy, which in turn, drives my husband crazy. Apparently change, business cards, and receipts scattered across the dresser are, in reality, strategically placed :) Well, if I make some of these boxes with some fabric that matches our room, with maybe even some labels on them, I think I might have found the solution for both my husband and me. As soon as I make them, I'll post some pictures :)

20 Crafts I'm doing for 2011....What about you?

Well, it's a new year!  2011.  I love New Years.  I do.  I love the goal setting.  The fresh starts.  The reflection and the looking forward.  So today I really wanted to share my top 20 things I want to make this year.

1. I really would like to make a family history scrapbook.  A mix of family history and those books Tell Me your story.  Know what I'm talking about?  I thought about doing this a few years ago and it just got put on the back burner.  But no more!

2.  Make a quilt.  Never done it.  But I will.

3. I want to make Emily's Grandview bag.  I've wanted to make it for a while now.

4. I've got quite a few projects lined up for my living room.  I'm doing a vintage game theme.  But I can't share too much yet! :)

5.  I pledged to make 1 blanket a month for Gabe's gifts! {I would LOVE if you could help with this project!  Read about my story and how you can help here}

6. I would like to learn to make soap.

7. So I've given up trying to win one of these fabulous necklaces from Flamingo Toes.  {Darn all of the other 5,000 people who were hoping to win too!}  So I think I just need to make one myself.  Good thing she shows you how!  I've never made jewelry before so this is a first for me too.
8. And speaking of necklaces I still need one of the silhouette necklaces from All things made by Kelly.

9. DSCF1619
Josh lost his lunch money a few times this year.  So this is a must!! {A Lemon Squeezy Home tutorial}

10.  I think that there are a bazillion holiday things I saw this year that I didn't get to make so let me just generalize here: pillows

11. table runners/place mats/tablecloths

12. wreathes

13. buntings/banners...whichever you call them

14. and I obviously need a million frames for all of the holiday printables I've saved!!!

14.  Coasters.  I need coasters.  I don't have any.  Why? Must make some.

15. Josh needs a new backpack.  I was going to order this Star Wars one from PB but they were sold out and on back order til Nov.  And then I forgot about it.
I may still buy him one.  And make a 2nd backpack.  One that I like.  One to take to Grandmas.

16. My husband requested lounge pants like I made Josh.  Made me laugh.  But I will.  {And then he promptly asked me not to make matching family pjs}

17. Learn to make pretty cookies.  I'm so envious of all the pretty cookies out there!

18. And make cake pops.  Am I the only one who hasn't tried these yet?

19. I'd also like to build something.  I've never built anything.  In fact.  I don't even really use a hammer.  {Seriously I don't.  If I want a picture hung up I lean it against the wall till I get Andy to hang it up.}

20. Greeting cards.  Kind of lame?  But I'd like to get a whole years worth of cards made.  And addressed.  And stamped.  And organized.  So I just have to pull em out.  How great would that be?

Whats on your list of crafty projects to try this year??

And on a non-craft related but New Years resolution related item of note... I was chosen to be on Win, Lose or Blog! It's totally exciting (and yet embarrassing that I've gotten all fat!) but I'd love all y'alls support over there! It starts Jan. 10. So if you've got a few lbs to lose come do it with me.  And we'll make it fun. Well, at least try! :)

Happy New Year everyone!!

Blogging 101, Bring in the New Year with a Blog

Since it is a new year, I have decided to do a quick guide to starting a blog. It's a great time to start one, if you haven't already. If you do have a blog already, make sure you are updated to the latest features! See the steps listed at the bottom of this post after step 6 to learn how to update your blog. If you are just starting a blog, you will automatically be making your blog with the newest features, and there is no need to upgrade.

One fun thing to do with your blog (especially a family blog), is to compile it into an actual bound book of blog posts for the whole year. There are a number of places to do this: Blurb, Bookemon, Blog2Print, and more.

I was recently talking to one of my friends who told me that she loves to look at others' blogs, but has no idea how to do her own. So for those of you like my friend, here we go!

With my post this week, you will be able to create a blog, and make a blog post. Stay tuned for my next Monday's post that will help you understand a few more features available to you.

1. When you view a blogger blog like ours, you will notice that up in the navigation bar, there is a spot that says "Create Blog". Click on that.
***After you have completed all of these steps and made your own blog, you can always click on the "Sign In" option in this same area where you will be able to sign in and access to edit your own blog.

2. It will take you to a page that you can fill out to get started. If you already have a gmail account, you don't need to fill anything out here--just go ahead and sign in with the sign in link on the page, then fill out the information it asks for.

3. After you have created your account, you will want to name your blog. You can change the name of your blog whenever you want throughout your blogging experience, but changing your blog address (URL) isn't as easy. Pick an address that resembles what you want to blog about. If you click on "Check Availability" Blogger will let you know if the address you have picked is available. When you've got the address you want, go ahead and click on "Continue".

4. The next step is to choose your template. Go ahead and pick one that you like. The biggest difference in the templates is how they look, but if you want to get things more personalized and custom, then this won't make too much of a difference. My most recent blogs have been based on the "Simple Template", but you can pick whatever you want.

5. After you've picked a template and click on "Continue"---your blog is live at the address(URL) you've selected and you can go ahead and click on "Start Blogging"!

This is the page where you will make each post.

Here is a quick guide to the buttons and features you can use on this page. While editing you can select any text throughout your post and add certain features to that text by using many of these different options. You can also click and on pictures that you have added to your post and apply these features to them as well.

1. Undo your last edit
2. Redo your last edit
3. Font choice
4. Text size
5. Bold your text
6. Italicize your text
7. Underline your text
8. Strikethrough your text
9. Color of font
10. Highlight text and color of highlight
11. Make text into a link. Select the text you want to be a link then click here to choose where it will link to. You can also select images and make them into links.
12. Add an image. On the left you will see that you can select to upload an image from your computer, your blog, Picassa Web Albums, or a URL of an image you found. While one is uploading, you can go ahead and select more images from your computer by clicking on "Choose File"--as many as you like. The images will show up in the box when they are uploaded. Blogger just made this option so much more convenient! If you accidently delete a picture after you've inserted it onto your post, you can just go back to this option and your image will still be there to reselect. Also, after you insert your images, you can control the size of each image as well. Just click on your image and you will see the options that you can click on that appear below your image. Your blog must be updated for some of these picture options.
13. Add a video (you can insert a movie to upload from your computer, YouTube, your own YouTube videos).
14. Insert a jump break. This is if you want only part of your post to show. It will show up until the jump break is inserted and then give your readers the option to "Read More" You must activate it in the Settings tab (More of how to activate it in next week's post)
15. Text alignment or picture alignment
16. Add a numbered list
17. Add a bulleted list
18. Add a quote (this will separate the text you've selected from your paragraph and center it).
19. Remove formatting (select the text that you want the format of your text to no longer be there, such as no longer underlined or bold, etc.)
20. Check Spelling
21. If you click on "Post Options" some options will appear that will allow you to decide whether or not you want to allow viewers to comment on your post, customize some HTML options (you probably won't mess too much with this), and schedule your post to go live at a specific time. I love this last option because especially with this blog, I can make multiple posts and schedule them for the day that I am assigned to post on. After you are done with your post, but don't quite want it live yet, you can schedule your post and then hit publish post. It will save and tell you when your post will go live.
22. Click "Publish Post" when are finished with your post and want it to show up live on your blog (it will not show up live right away if you have it scheduled to appear at a different time)
23. Click "Save Now" periodically to save your post as you create it. If you don't finish your post right away, this saved post can be edited later.
24. Click "Preview" to see how your post will look on your blog without publishing it yet.
25. Here you can enter in labels that your post fits under such as "Summer", "Crafts", "Christmas", etc. This way you can create groups of posts that fit under certain labels.
26. Here is where you can access the HTML code of your post. You can insert any HTML code here that you might grab from any other site for a button, etc. If you click back to the "Compose" tab (Right next the the "Edit HTML" tab) after you have entered your code in under the "Edit HTML" tab, you will see how the code you pasted in is interpreted to show up on your blog. Most likely you won't have to use this too often if you consider yourself a beginner blogger.
27. Insert what you want your post to be titled.

6. After you have entered your post, you can go ahead and click on"Publish Post" and then view your blog. You will see your post live on your own new blog URL!
